Fifth Grade Teacher

Hi, I am the fifth grade teacher at Neighborhood Christian School. I feel completely blessed by this wonderful opportunity that God has given me, to teach fifth graders about the world around them, and how God sustains all that we see.

Now that my students have a firm grasp of reading, writing and arithmetic (thanks to the teachers of pre-k through fourth grade), we will be learning more about how to manage time wisely. There will be a daily devotional time, balancing class time, class work and homework, and learning how to structure a long project by reporting on another country.

I grew up in the Bay Area, attended U.C. Berkeley, and started working in international trade. I have a keen interest in people of other cultures and have traveled to Mexico, Roatan, Russia, Europe, India, and Singapore - so I am particularly excited about teaching World History to my Fifth Grade Class. I am looking forward to taking advantage of the Mondavi Performing Arts Center at the U.C. Davis campus and attend some of the international performances with my class.

I am married to a wonderful guy that I met at First Covenant Church in San Francisco. Our first date was a swim in the San Francisco Bay. I guess I have a real bend toward 'high adventure' because 'it was cold, but thankfully no hungry sharks'. God has blessed us with two great kids, my son Shane and daughter Nikki, both attended Neighborhood Christian School. But they tease me that 'Mom is still in fifth grade!

We attend University Covenant Church in Davis California and are encouraged by the many collegians that attend our church during the academic year. Supporting missions is a true passion for us, and we enjoy being in the center of an international community of scholars who come from all over the world to study at the university. It's like having all the best of other cultures without needing to know another language, buy a plane ticket or apply for a visa. So it's probably no surprise that a favored Scripture verse is Matthew 28:18b-20 "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (NIV)
